Convert Grease Pencil Color Attributes to Materials

This proposal suggests adding a button in Blender’s Grease Pencil tools, labeled "Assign to Selected Material," allowing users to assign selected strokes and fills—originally colored using Color Attributes—to a material they have selected beforehand. This simplifies the process of centralizing color control for easier adjustments after using vertex-based coloring.

Problem Description: Artists often start coloring Grease Pencil strokes and fills with Color Attributes for vertex-level control. However, as the project progresses, switching to Material-based coloring becomes necessary for global color adjustments. Currently, no direct way exists to transfer color from Color Attributes to a pre-existing material, requiring manual recreation of color properties, which is inefficient in larger projects.

Proposed Solution: Introduce a "Convert Color Attribute to Material" button. This button will allow users to convert/assign selected strokes or fills to a material they have already chosen from the Material Properties panel.

Workflow: Select the Material: The user selects the desired material in the Material Properties panel. Select Strokes or Fills: In Edit Mode, the user selects the strokes or fills they want to assign to the chosen material. Click Assign Button: The user clicks the "Assign to Selected Material" button to apply the selected material to the chosen strokes or fills, overriding the Color Attribute data. Considerations: Preserving Color Attributes: The Color Attribute data remains intact but is overridden by the material, providing a non-destructive workflow. Handling Complex Attributes: If Color Attributes include gradients or transparency, users may need to manually tweak the material after assignment, as these properties may not fully transfer. User Workflow: By having the user select the material first and then apply it with a single button click, the process remains fast and intuitive. Benefits: Simplicity: The single-button workflow eliminates dropdowns and reduces complexity, streamlining the conversion process. Centralized Color Control: Allows artists to quickly switch from Color Attributes to Materials, making color adjustments easier across the project. Non-Destructive: Keeps the original Color Attributes intact for future reference or fallback. This feature provides an easy, efficient solution for switching from Color Attributes to Materials, enhancing color control in Grease Pencil workflows while maintaining simplicity and flexibility.

How do you reconcile the way that the attribute can then affect in different mixes and values? The material itself is a flat color, but the attribute then can ever so slightly color and multiply for effect.
