New Trim Tools and Options:

Collection of ideas to improve the trim tools for hard surface in sculpt mode.

  1. Non Destructive Mode :

NonDestructive.png

Instead of apply the boolean operation the tool adds the modifier and saves the cutting mesh in a collection, done to modify the cutting object with either the edit mode or modifiers after.

  1. Slice & Inset :

Slice&Inset.png Slice would be similar to mask slice to new object from the mask menu, it is done with the modifier adding solidify to the cutting mesh with even thickness and offset 0, to control the width of the cut could be interesting too, after that the mode could either separate to a new object or to create face sets. Inset is done this way:

  1. Bevel:

Bevels.png to the cutting shape, to the bottom in custom depth, inverted for the exteriors (done flipping the normal), wedge cuts could be useful for the borders too (done with a bevel in just one edge with the maximum width), it would be interesting to control, not only width and segments, but the shape too.

  1. Shape Orientation Surface:

ShapeOrientationSurface.png Now this option only uses the normal of the face for the direction of the boolean, the goal would be to use the normal of the face to draw there, blender could use the add cube to mesh interactively from object mode to create the box shape, with this the trim tool could also add draw from the center, snap to edges and vertex, align to edges, rotate, dynamic depth, if the cylinder is added blender could do arches and to cut regular shapes from the triangle to the circle.

  1. Profil (from the Carver addon included inside blender):

Profil.png Brush to cut with custom 2d meshes, it comes with different shapes but the goal would be to load you own 2d meshes (it could use the asset browser), also projects the shape from the normal of the face, adds dynamic depth, rotation, arrays vertical and horizontal, the radial array should be implemented.
