the ability to tweak the vertex weight of multiple vertices at once with a slider
If I have modifiers using vertex groups, like a smooth for example, then I want to be able to select multiple vertices in edit mode, and use a weight slider to get realtime feedback of how the selected vertices are reacting, in this case how much they're being smoothed.
At the moment only the active vertex gets realtime feedback when using the vertex weight slider in the n panel, and the other selected vertices only get updated if you click to paste the current value.
The vertex weight slider should also have options to affect either selected vertices only, the active vertex, or all vertices. It should also have the options to set the slider to work as either a multiplier (so all of the values are changed relative to their current value) , or to overwrite all values to the slider's current value.

yes please
Why not use the Levels tool in weight paint mode?
To be clear, you're talking about the value field in the Vertex Weights panel of the Sidebar (as opposed to the Weight value in the Object Data tab of the Properties editor). Is that correct? This is one of those moments when a mock-up would be a lot of help.
* @Jason van Gumster * yes, although also adding the functionality to the slider in the data panel would probably be useful, and would also allow to use the slider as a weight multiplier when not in edit mode, so entire vertex groups could be tweaked without the slow performance dense meshes cause when in edit mode.
Here's an example of how it could be used if open subdiv vertex creases get implemented into blender:

Also the ability to nest vertex groups would mean you could just specify the parent group in a modifier, and then tweak all of the vertex groups individually, which would then be reflected in the parent group. This would allow for better naming conventions, such as" border", "sharp", and "fully smooth", which are children of the vertex group assigned to an opensubdiv modifier called "Geo1 opensubidiv weights".
If vertex groups could be replaced by weight groups, then edges and vertices could be stored together in one group, and modified all at once. This would mean edge crease, bevel weight and mean crease could be replaced by weight groups, and then the modifiers could have extra inputs to specify weight groups for each (really handy for organising per edge/vertex bevel weights for example).
