User input fields should have a consistent (or logical) scale.

The user input values for fields range too far, to pick a few:

'friction' 0 to 1.

'strength' 0 to 9999999.

'max bounces' 0 to 1024.

These are just the ones of the top of my head. There are multiple of course.

From a coding perspective it makes sense, but from a usability perspective it makes zero sense. Why does 'friction' go from zero to 1 while 'plasticity' goes from zero to 100?

This is fairly simple to do, it just requires adjusting (or sometimes adding, since it's not required) the specific range for a setting.

But as you can imagine this is time consuming since it has to be done for every property.

Are you interested in helping out? Make a list of properties (perhaps grouped by area, since there are so many) and a proposal on the ranges they should have. Maybe on a Google Spreadsheet or HackMD so others can help?

For developers interested in helping, look for the function RNA_def_property_ui_range in the rna_* file you're interested in. For example rna_particle.c for particle stuff, or rna_scene.c for Scene properties.

I'm not a developer, but I could certainly start a spreadsheet...

OK, I have created a spreadsheet with a few just to get started. Is the format OK? Any other information that would help the developers? Is the link OK?

it never got mutch traction, but it's a good idea. people vastly underestimate usability - but it makes everyones life easier.
