Alembic Import/Export
Since Alembic is rapidly becoming a VFX Industry Standard, I hope Blender will be able to import and export .abc files

While it's known that this feature is already being worked on, if you're going to make a proposal, it really should be more extensive. How exactly should Alembic files be supported? Where in the interface would data from these files be accessed and used?
A single sentence isn't really an adequate proposal.
I'm still figuring out how or what this site is mainly for - I guess the main thing is bringing new ideas forth in a consolidated place, but also I think the value is knowing how much a feature or area is desired (at least with one slice of the blender population who's active here/BN/BA etc).
I upvoted this because I've been working with some studios trying to get around this missing standard, and I know it's critical to a lot of professionals considering but opting not to use blender because of it. I've heard very little about the project status even after trying to look into it but a couple months ago.
Alembic import is done (to a certain level), so why are all these topics still here? just asking...
* @Oliver Weingarten * There's a plan to give this site a bit tighter integration with developer.blender.org , where we can link to design tasks and what-not. However, that part hasn't been fully developed, yet. Currently, the best option is to ping me or the OP and suggest that we change the proposal's status from nothing to "In Development" or "Done".
This would really be good to be able to collaborate with other artist who don't use Blender.
