Integration of all modifiers into Geo Nodes as nodes.

There are some handy modifiers such as decimate that cannot be included in a geometry nodes system. It would be great to have a way to use these within a geometry nodes system.

The long term goal of Geometry Nodes is to replace all modifiers at some point, so all modifiers will be geometry nodes setups under the hood. They already started with the Array modifier. The bevel modifier is also being worked on but is very complex, it requires a full rewrite as well. Since Array is a geonode modifier, it's also a node group asset, which means you can already have the Array modifier as a separate node in Geometry Nodes whenever you need it.

This will be the case for all modifiers. So yes that's a good idea and it's being worked on ! (Or it's planned at the very least)

No, cannot all modifiers with geometry nodes,

  • armatuture deform

  • lattic deform

  • mesh deform

These cannot be replaced!!!!

Why not? It's already possible to replicate these by using workarounds

I completely agree! Integrating modifiers like Decimate directly into Geometry Nodes would be a huge improvement. It would streamline workflows, allow more procedural flexibility, and reduce the need to switch between modifier stacks and nodes. This feature would make complex setups much easier and more efficient for artists.

It's a work in progress for some modifiers projects.blender.org/blender/blender/pulls/158564
