Array Modifier "Fit to Curve" type to actually follow curve

The Array Type "Fit to Curve" currently generates a straight line array of objects that is the length of the selected curve. Array Modifier -> Options

It would be very useful if this type of Array also fit the shape of the curve. (The same way DupliFrames can achieve this, but not having to change the curve's frames property) This allows access to Array functions such as Merge and Subdivide.

The current suggestion of combining an array modifier with a follow curve modifier is unsuitable if the the requirement is to not distort the objects in the array.

An option should also be included to follow rotation of the curve.

(Edit from comments below) The array modifier for this type should have options for Number of copies as well as Start and End (0-1) values to control where along the curve the array stars and finishes.

Note: This suggestion is inspired by, but not a duplicate of other suggestions like This One to fix the Array / Follow Curve combination above to avoid distortion.

I agree, if I select "Fit Curve" the expected result for me is that the copies follow the curve. Then it would be great to have the options: deform following the curve and turn following the curve (we would control it with the "Tilt" of the curve.

* @Luis Perez * I agree. It's hard to imagine a case when you would want it to be the length of a curve but not actually fit it to the curve (still, a tick box might be necessary). It would also be nice as there is currently no other way to do so without deforming the mesh.

I think that an extra option to select a curve in the array modifier would be better because than you can even set the number of arrayed objects by yourself. Here

* @Jack Brown * Or have a number, and start and end (0 - 1) like the Curve Bevel options to control where the array starts and finishes along the curve.

Well, this can be done using the Curve modifier, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have this as an option in the Array modifier. And faster to set up.

* @-L0Lock- * But the curve modifier will deform the mesh.
