I think it would be useful especially when it comes to baking, which often come in the middle of a Blender session (unlike the rendering phase which usually starts at the end of the day when you no longer need to work on your computer). Having Blender notifying me that my bake is done would be a huge time saver.

should be easy to script , there are already existing python libs to use os notifocations
