Press corresponding key to dismiss pie menu when it's open
For example, pressing Z to bring up the shading menu. When the menu is open, I could just press Z again to dismiss it if I don't want to change anything about shading. Right now I have to press ESC to close a pie menu which I feel quite inconvenient. Some people asked why I would open a menu I don't want to use, well... things just happen. Besides, having another option is never a bad thing.

A patch to do this was submitted about a year ago (See D4220 ). I'll have to go back and see why it didn't get accepted (EDIT: Looks like it just dropped off the radar... understandably since the initial submit was more of a proposal then later cleaned up ). However, what did get accepted was code to have the pie menu go away on a held release of the shortcut key ( See D4180 ) if that helps make your pie menu experience better.
* @bjustjones * Thank you. Tried this method out, might be a temporary alternative for now, but need some use to, and sure not as intuitive as double pressing the key.
Are you using Linux? I made a new binary that does what you ask so you can try it out.
D4220 has been updated. Anyone with an opinion either way should comment here and/or at D4220 .
* @bjustjones * Sorry I'm an ordinary Windows user...Still thank you very much.
Do you mean, use the key combination you used to open the Pie menu, to dismiss it... Instead of having to move your hand to the ESC key?
Like [CTRL]+ [Tab] to bring up mode menu and [CTRL]+ [Tab] to dismiss it again?
* @ammusionist * Yes, That's what I mean. I Think I should clarify it in my main post.
You can also click in the middle of the pie to dismiss it.. if you don't click or hit escape, how else will the pie menu close? If closing a pie menu you didn't want to use is inconvenient, why did you open it?
* @testure * I prefer keyboard operation whenever it's possible. When my left hand brings up a pie menu, my right hand might already left my mouse and moved to the numpad. So mouse clicking might be more inconvenient to me.
* @testure * If there were an X in that circle in the middle of the pie menu I would have learned that was a way to close it. I did not know that I could just click in the middle until you told me.
