2.82 outliner Del. fails

In 3D viewport Del. keyboard key deletes selected object. But for an object selected in outliner, Del. does nothing. Would be good if it deleted too !

Hello. This isn't exactly a 'bug' or a lacking 'feature' but rather it is due to key map issues.

  • There is NO keymap entry for Delete Object in the "Blender" or "Blender 27x" keymaps! Only for Delete Collection.
  • The "Industry Compatible" keymap does have an entry for Delete Object and for Delete Collection ( these are two separate operators! ) but when they are both bound to the same key only Delete Collection works because it is a key conflict!

Easy fix:

  • If you're using Blender or Blender 27x keymaps, add a new entry with the correct operator for Delete Object inside of the Outliner section of the keymap.
  • If you have a key conflict you can either use a different key for Delete Collection and Delete Object OR you can just change one of them to trigger on Press and the other to trigger on Release and you can keep both mapped to the same key.

Also, it'd be great to have an option to delete or make different operations with hidden objects. I just want to be able to make a conscious decision without the need for unhiding. These are not photoshop layers, no need to make it this foolproof.

I asked for this on september 19 right on devtalks . Guy which been working on Google Summer of Code Outliner update even reply that he still working on but not in high priority. As we can see - it still not here :( But I still hope that it's in development somehow.

It will delete in the outliner if you have your cursor hovering over the viewport, however I agree that you shouldn't have to know that.

I think this is a bug, or maybe it's one of those intended behaviors that's counter-intuitive. Either way it's not really for RCS.
