Save "checkmarks" in history list
Modeling, tweaking, adjusting render settings, trying a few tricks, etc, etc, and now your Blender history has grown in a huge list where you can't find the safe state you want to go back to.
It would be a little and comfortable addition to have a checkmark next to the history step when you last saved your blend file, as in the picture (right side)

This is good idea and for total beginners with Blender this history list should be better organized maybe as one list with the slider or sth and maybe some time marks (ago) that are darker that the undo operations i.e (checker/time/divider/Operation) : [ ] 10s | Select , [ ] 1m | Rotate ... etc
Would the check icon be better, or would be be better to use whatever icon is actually in place for saving?
@Jason van Gumster: Yeah, at first i thought of a floppy disk, but actually that checkmark is the save icon! And I also remember a long discussion about that icon on BA
