Improve Vertex Paint accessibility
Currently, vertex paint mode doesn't show you what the vertex paint looks like on top of your selected textures. Additionally, there's no way to rotate around your selection; you need to switch to edit mode, rotate, then switch back to move correctly.
Finally, a button to enable showing the vertex paint on top of the meshes in solid view would be super helpful!
Vertex paint is necessary for creating lots of different game assets, as well as many particle simulations. It's frustrating when your workflow has to involve such an underdeveloped tool.

I don't understand the part about rotating around your selection, it works just fine for me ? Also, you can plug the vertex color layer into the node tree of your material to see what it will look like in viewport shading (depending on what map you are painting on)
* @Gorgious * Yep, but if it need to operate lot of materials it's a pain - better to have just global overlay. Same as some global opacity slider for such overlay. Sometimes it need to see both vertex color and texture or textures blend based on this vertex color.
* @IIIFGIII * I understand the handiness of such feature but in the case of objects with several vertex color maps or textures, I wonder how the overlay would know which vertex color layer or which channel of the color would need to be drawn, and how to blend with which texture. In the very simple case of "Mix" blending between a color map and a vertex color layer this would be easy, but in any other case you would need the same features as in the node editor
* @Gorgious * Existing of such overlay not mean that u can't no more use material node blend something. Believe me - I work with really large/complex scenes made in Blender for UE. VC often used to set material instructions in UE and it not mean that u have to replicate all of them in Blender (at least it take time).
If you have to work with dozens of different models (groundplanes, landmarks, props, name it) and need to handle their VC comfortly - you will pray for such overlay... Sadly that this suggestion get so small amount of votes.
