Cycles Shadow Catcher material
This is pretty simple - A material which is only receiving shadows. This is extremely useful for compositing, either internally or using another software such as AE/Natron/Nuke

There is some work already going on with this.. developer.blender.org/D1788
But you can already create this.. with the help of light paths. So why else.. I don't understand!
Can you post an example? As far as I know it's not possible unless you use some compositing tricks involving the shadow pass, which still fails in a few corner cases.
care to show an example?, i've tried 100 times.
This patch in a slightly adapted form I am using in Cycles for Rhino. Works pretty nice, but there are still some issues to be ironed out.
Even if its possible, it requires some node tricks, it would be easier and faster with a proper node.
To my knowledge the current simplest way this is done is with a second render pass. I did see a node setup that routed the shadow pass back into the render, but it was pretty immensely complicated.
It is not a straight forward lightpath node problem that I've been able to figure out, but if you do have a simple way, please do share! I'd appreciate it a lot!
if it's just node tricks it can be turned to a node group and you got yourself a shader, but i believe it isnt possible at all.
HOw to get that shadow with Light Path?????
can't this post be deleted now? We've had it since 2.79
Yes, it would be nice to flag it as implemented or something. Is that supported on the platform?
@linus.wiklander: No but the OP or the admin can delete it.
* @Caetano Veyssières * I think the original author or a moderator (which I don't spend enough time here recently to know who/if there is one) can mark it as done. But it is possible.
* @blazer003 * Yes, now it is possible. However, there is no flag or report button to ping the moderators. We'd have to contact them through other means and I'm not going to do that for each implemented feature.
* @Caetano Veyssières * FWIW, I've updated the status on this one to Done.
