Ability to copy and paste node setups

Every time I update Blender, I try to use its internal copy/paste buttons in the node editor (or the compositor for that matter), to see if I can copy/paste my node setups into another blender file, but hasn't been added yet. Would love to have this as a feature!

yes you can do it, but NOT on different instances of blender, you have to open a file copy the nodes, close the file and open where you want to paste it in the same blender, then paste.

To be clear, you don't close your file (or close Blender). You simply open your other file from within Blender. Once you close Blender, that copied data is indeed lost.

To be able to copy and paste this data across different instances or sessions of Blender is probably a non-trivial challenge if we want this to work on multiple platforms. A developer with a better understanding of Blender internals would need to comment/confirm, but I think that this would require some pretty low-level work in Blender's GHOST library.

Actually, you can make a nodegroup including your node setup, save your file and then append it into another instance.

Copy&paste between separate Blender sessions would be so helpful. In the meantime copy&paste between different kinds of node editors has been added. You can e.g. now copy a Mix node from a shader editor to a geometry nodes editor.
