Shapekeys Collections
I'm currently working on a character that has like 45 shapekeys on each side of the face, and as I add new corrective shapekeys searching and sorting between them to add/edit drivers it's becoming increasingly hard.
I think something like groups/collections/folders is necessary to be able to group shapekeys and have a better organization in the panel, this way I could for example have the shapekeys for the eyes in one group, lips on another one, etc.
How would it work? Well, since this is just about having a way to visually group shapekeys I'd add 2 new options to the dropdown menu: "Add New Group" and "Add Shape to Group", so the main functionality goes like this:
- On the dropdown menu click on Add New Group (Any new group would be empty by default).
- With a shapekey selected, click on Add Shape to Group (An extra dropdown menu would appear next with the available groups to choose from. If there's only one group then it gets added to that one).
- With a group selected, clicking on the dropdwon menu would give also an option to delete the group. Doing that would leave the shapekeys that were inside that group on the general list again.
- Shapekeys can be part of only one group at a time.
- Groups cannot be inside other groups.
I imagine this being only about organization, to remove the visual clutter, not about performing different actions between groups or adding new functionality to shapekeys.
What do you think?

Ive always wanted this for vertex groups too. Since some of them are used for weight painting, but some others for other porposes like particles etc, its a mess having them all in one bunch. Great idea
Have you tried ShapeKeysPlus addon? github.com/MontagueMGM/shape_keys_plus
* @sickmonkeydub * This looks amazing! Thank you very much Michael :)
So important... When you have 1 or 2 shapekeys no problem, but when it's a lot, it can be messy. Same for vertex groups.
"Folders in lists" suggestion blender.community/c/rightclickselect/9Gfbbc/ is a more generic version of this one.
This is it! Pretty nice feature! And I swear each group should have intensity like other softwares. So that you can quickly decrease deformation of the group by reducing the group intensity from 1.0.
This addon tackles this issue. It is user friendly and works on most Blender versions - inletzone.com/shape-key-collections/
