PolyBuild Tool, modifier key to temporarily turn off extrude so that vertices can be easily grabbed

It would be great to have a modifier key in the PolyBuild Tool to temporarily turn off the Extrude function in order to favor only grabbing the vertices. They're very hard to grab without getting the blue edge and ending up with an extrude when trying to move a vertex. Thank you!
