Particle Nodes UX Suggestion

I know this is in fairly early development, but thought I would give my 2 cents on the multiple inputs part. It would make sense from an user experience standpoint to show that it accepts multiple, for everywhere else in Blender there is only one input. Below is a quick mockup Image

I'm 100% on showing there can be several noodles plugged in this input socket, but I don't think adding more sockets is the best solution, it will quickly overcrowd the node.

How about taking inspiration from the current Blender design (the socket's appearance indicates what's in) and from the standard checkboxes design :

  • round checkbox = 1 possible choice
  • square checkbox = multiple choices possible

In other words:

  • round socket = only one input pluggable
  • square socket = multiple inputs pluggable

* @-L0Lock- * You have a good point on that it could eventually become overcrowded. I like that square socket idea!

* @-L0Lock- * In some other cases this would be desirable though. For instance if we ever got a way to control each color in the color ramp I'd want an approach similar to this.

* @-L0Lock- * The problem with square sockets is it puts recall over recognition because there's nothing about a square socket that visually communicates it can have multiple inputs. In terms of UX, I believe the initial feature request had a more intuitive UI.

haven't yet used it, but why cant you connect 2 to one node ? I like the idea of addapitve sockets, would be grat for more input of the color ramp as well, we definitly could use smarter adjusting nodes. Currently some nodes change inputs (math node) so it should be possible
