Specific Eevee improvements for lighting

Alright, so I have a few ideas for some new updates that could be possible for 2.81 that have to do with the new render engine "Eevee"

  1. Light Textures -

I have gone on about this before, I am not mentioning nodes for lights in eevee. I am mentioning specifically textures alone. A good example is how the brushes have there own texture section in the properties tab. Maybe its possible to add something similar to that but specifically for lights?

  1. Reflections -

While I have used the reflection cubemaps, I almost see no difference then to how it originally looked, and for ScreenSpaceReflections, it is really, really grainy even when half-res trace is off. So possibly an improvement to one of the 2 could be done.

  1. Shape-Lights -

Before I go into this, I am not talking about Meshes that emit light. I am talking about a lamp that takes the shape of a mesh and just lights up in that shape. For Example, if you had Suzzanne set as the shape, the lamp would be in the shape of suzzanne!

For 1. you can use an easy workaround: Place a circle or a square with a slight offset from the light, texture the transparency of the object and enable alpha blend and hashed shadows. I use that trick to fake IES very effectively. Crank up the shadow sampling to get better texture resolution. {attachment Screen_Shot_2019-07-01_at_061016png}

While #1 could be done, #2 is vague and the #3 is more than a simple request.

I'm not sure why Cubemaps don't work for you, have you baked them? You can turn up the samples to get rid of SSR noise.

On the subject of mesh lights there is a reason no other rasterizer supports it: Because it is an insanely difficult problem to solve mathematically compared to a mesh lights in path tracer where it is trivial.

For future requests I'd recommend splitting it up and doing research into what can be done to make a more solid request.

These are three different proposals. Please separate them into individual posts so they can be discussed and voted upon independently.

* @Jason van Gumster * Also, be sure to search the features first. #1 almost certainly has a proposal, either as light textures or nodes for lights or something like that.
