We need an "Emergency UNDO" or "Stop calculating" Button!

Seriously, I hate when any kind of software has no safety or warnings! I was about to reduce the quantity of particle-children from 100 to 20, but mistakenly added 20 after 100, instead of instead.

And Blender Started Calculating like: "10k Children! why not? Sounds good to me!" :^) oops! dwm_3KeOMNkcik.png There should be some kind of "Stop calculating" button! or something.

I personally don't like warnings, especially when it comes in the form of a popup that I have to close, but being able to cancel the operation would be nice

yeah. in some situations (e.g., Fluid Resolution) it will be better to pop-up warnings when typing in very large value such as 2566 or 1288

It's probably not easy thing to implement, but some areas have safety limiters like array modifier for example:

if it's something with a loading bar, pressing escape stops it at blender's next UI tick!... which can take a couple minutes at times. but works on heavy sims.

Or atleast an warning if the number for children is higher then 100 - dynotype has a warning - why not warning for particles ?
