Convert Grease Pencil strokes to quads
Right now, there is no way to export or convert 3d Grease Pencil art in a way that preserves its color and thickness information as well as its 3d information. In order to enable this, a good first start would be to be able to select a GP layer or strokes, and have an option to do any of the following:
-
approximate the best flattening orientation (averaging), from that determine the boundaries of a projection like that, bake the GP visual information to a texture and create a quad with the correct UV information and placement in the scene.
-
automatically divide the selected strokes into groups based on how close their scene placements match, and then execute step 1 for each group separately
-
somehow, convert GP visual information to polygons with the materials intact, with a good way to simulate the overlapping mechanism of GP to prevent z-fighting
