Add vertex paint to vertex group

Sometimes we need a gradual effect (like Proportional editing). For example- if I hook certain vertex group to an empty and I want that I adjacent vertex should be affected by some proportions. if i move the hook object then the effect on hooked vertex group should be 1 and gradually decreases to Smooth/linear or whatever type i choose.

What does that mean?

* @-L0Lock- * Like editing the soft selection by painting, instead of with a circle falloff. The same way you skin a mesh to bones. You can do this in 3Ds Max. I was looking for something like this the other day to work with sculpting layers using a smooth painted falloff on the shape keys, but It looks like this is not an option.

* @gabe687 * I still don't understand the proposal. What you say makes me think more about weight painting and edit mode. Vertex paint just assigns color data to vertices.

In sculpting you can also use masks and face sets.

EDIT: @mrajendra2150 Now I see that you edited his post. I could have been nice to post an answer to warn us about it: we don't get any notification when someone edits its post on this website, we could never notice when you edit your post.

So now I'm wondering... How do you manage your vertex groups? Because what you're asking seems to be already what vertex groups can do.

Each vertex you assign in a group is assigned using a factor called "weight". You can choose the factor in your mesh's Vertex Groups panel while in edit mode:

You can also edit the weights on a selection of vertices in edit mode:

{attachment vertex_weights_panel}

And most importantly, you can just use the weight paint mode and "paint" your weights for any vertex group:
