more support for wacom user : mouse combination for more fun in 2d viewer navigation.

This maybe little thing i want Blender to have . Working in 2d viewer , i want to fast interaction to do zoom and pan. I use Nuke/resolve for compositing and the the feature they have is to zoom/pan using pen (wacom) by using single hand. This sounds nothing, but for daily use , it's really handy and faster. I can use combination of RMB and LMB at the same time, For example RMB=pan and RMB+LMB =zoom. So if i'm in pan mode with RMB still pressed, just by touching the pan to the tablet , it immediatelly turn into zoom , and i lift my pen, i change into pan mode. It is really fast to navigate with single hand without to press any modifier key with my other hand.

You may be able to link zoom and pan each to its own click like RMB for pan and MMB for zoom. But still it's slow.

Again this may just a little thing , but it would be great to have it. For daily use, it will save a lot of time.

could you upload a picture of your hand holding the stylus to do that RMB+LMB zoom??, i can't find a posture that keeps the pen stable or not stress the wrisk

.

link of video of i'm holding pen : youtu.be/65nECcnP37Q

in my experience, i don't need to have the pen stable. Holding it like holding pen ,nothing special. I attach the video of the sample navigation. I found it 2 times faster doing this way .compared to using modifier and 1 hand only. the video is real time. editing the image that fast , using LMB +RMB is more relax compared using modifier. Anyway as i wrote, i recommend this on 2d viewer, so maybe you thinking of 3d viewer where you need to be stable.

I used to navigate 2dspace using modifier for more than 10years, and since i switch using LMB+RMB to pan zoom, i never wanna go back again. Also when doing this , my habit is not holding them too long as you said you may stress the wrist. RMB to pan around , and when it's time to zoom , you just do a fast swipe movement with the pen touching the tablet (as in the video). If you already familiar with this movement , you easily can control how fast the swipe movement to get the zoom you want and the flow become much faster as your brain doesn't need to think first which modifier key to press.

I think it's different experience when you zooming in 3d space. I just requested for 2d navigation only like in uv editor, editing, compositing, image viewer etc. In 3d space you need to additional action which is rotating the view (3actions : rotate, zoom, pan) which need to use modifier.

@metaclay: ¿so do you use your index finger to right click?

metaclay Author

@L. Nahuel Belich: Nope, i think using index finger will be not comfortable. i use my thumb for panning. so the side button of the pen is located at where my thumb is rest , and when you want to zoom, just touch the tablet while thumb is still pressing. and when zoom, just do a fast swipe left and right to zoom in/out. This way is very very fast.

Also there 2 side buttons so i set the top/upper side button for panning. This way i feel more comfortable but you can use the bottom one for RMB. i use the lower side button for popup menu. But anyway , try yourself , maybe you find your own best configuration.
