Parametric/freeform modeling

Freeform modeling would allow for:

  • Perfect curved surfaces and faces
  • Fixing glitchy and slow boolean operations.
  • Effortlessly perfect shading (Without need for setting shade smooth/flat)
  • Allow tools like "inset" and bevel not working well on curved surfaces (As there would no longer be a need for dense geometry)
  • Better performance when working on organic/complex shapes or when using lots of booleans.

Parametric or freeform modeling is an alternative to polygon based modeling. It allows for creating curved faces and edges (without the need for subdivision or beveling) sort of like you edit curves in Blender (The edges you see on the attached image have not been subdivided, there are no hidden edges. They are really curved!). This allows you to create geometry with round shapes more easily without having to worry about bad geometry or shading as well as that boolean operations tend to work a lot better.

There are already plenty of modeling software's that support parametric or freeform modeling (Most commonly supported among CAD softwares) and I think Fusion 360 is a tool that really shows off the possibilities that comes with parametric modeling: youtube.com/watch

At the end of the day parametric/freeform modeling can do anything that Blenders polygon based modeling lets you do, but without you having to worry about the technical stuff quite as much.
