Freeze & unfreeze objects from viewport

Working with huge number of elements sometimes we make geometry unselectable just do not to spoil the scene. But as i know we haven't possibility to make it selectable from the viewport Sometimes it is hard to find required object in outliner to make it selectable So maybe it would be good idea to make it freeze instead of diselectable. That it would be possible to select it and unfreeze from viewport (Maybe it is better to choose another more beautiful icon anyway idea still the same) (Maybe to add an option freeze and unfreeze element & collection) P.S. Huge thanks for developing such amazing product! You are the best!

I was wondering if this would ever implemented on blender, so I found this thread, Most of my blender work come from an imported .dxf file from cad, mostly floorplans, so I can "model over the dxf lines" the problem with this method is that the objects appear selectable and editable, I know i can just lock the position of them, but is time consuming since Cad files usually has a lot of layers, so a freeze unfreeze object would dim the object for a cleaner modeling experience, this feature has been in max for ages.

I’d say that having frozen an object, it is still selectable. A frozen object within a larger selected set would not be affected by an edit action while the others would. Allowing selection of frozen objects makes it easy to thaw/unfreeze it again or show other properties without going into the outliner indeed. Frozen objects would still need to be dimmed or something similar to understand that it won’t be affected.

so freezing it would be locking its transform attributes ?

We just need a shortcut for this

I'd love the ability to lock an objects location/scale/rotation with a single click. I think this is what you mean?

If freezing is the equivalent of toggling selectability, then how would unfreezing work in the 3D View, since you can no longer select that objects? Would it bit like Unhide All (<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>H</kbd> in 2.79), or do you have some other mode of working in mind?
