Grease Pencil - simple layer manipulation changes

Grease Pencil layer manipulation feels very slow right now but i think it could be made much more agile with small changes.

Copy Layer to Object

Copy Layer to Object my biggest hurdle with this is that often times i find myself wishing that instead of copying the layer to the prexisting object, it instead moved it to completly new object.

Current process

  1. make new GP object
  2. select GP object which owns the layer you want to copy to another GP object
  3. select the layer you want to move
  4. click down onto the drop down options (if you forgot steps 1 you have to repeat steps 1 to 3) and select Copy Layer to Object
  5. copy the selected layer to the desired GP object
  6. delete orignal layer you just moved

proposal

add 2 new options to the drop down menu that work like this

Move Layer to New Object

  1. select GP object which owns the layer you want to move
  2. select the layer you want to move
  3. click down onto the drop down options and select Move Layer to New Object
  4. (behinds the scenes it copies currently selected GP object with only the selected layer to this new GP object and deletes the original layer) user is prompted to name the newly created GP object

Move Layer to Object

same as the Move Layer to new Object except for step 4 where instead it prompts the user to select prexisting GP object.

Merge Down

merge down it drives me crazy that it takes the name of the layer it merges into rather than the name of the layer merged from. You merge the layer down, it's strokes get placed on top of all the strokes of the layer it gets merged into, so why it is that the name of the layer merged from gets lost? Why does blender do it differently than every other program?

merge down drives me nuts merge Where did my first pass go?

Yes! we really need this. The way it is now is a bit clunky because you have to have both objects selected, and the GP object you copy the layers from has to be the active object. So this step can be easily messed up, It's frustrating. Though the naming thing actually does work like this is in other programs right? I just tested it in Clip studio and Photoshop. It does keep the name of the layer merged into, not the layer above being merged down. Though i do find that weird in general across the board, I've just never thought about it.
