The fact is, we create literally the shape of a plane and apply a texture on it.

Now, the image you're using might be used as a plan, sure. But when you use a TV for displaying plans, do you call your TV "plan" instead of "TV"?

It's called 'Planes' because the images are imported and placed on flat planes. The images imported could be anything, and in most cases would not be 'plans'.

the image we imported as plan is object we can draw on it . so i think we must named it plan - like texture when we talking about it we say texture not calling it by object that assign the texture on it , the image that imported is an a map (plan) not level (plane) this is my opinion because everything 2d can draw on it or make it as reference for convert it to 3d can named it map or plan i hope this is clear idea for show you what i mean in my opinion
