To be honest, even though 3ds max is my daily driver at work, I'm finding that the combination of active tool box select on the left click and right click for single select and direct manipulation just feels so good right now. The context menu isn't all that usefull because the menus are now nice and orderly and hotkeys are faster to work with anyways. I really think we've hit a sweet spot between right and left click that improves on both.
And this is why I'll keep using right-click to select. Once you get used to it, it makes life easier to have separate buttons for selection and action.
It's already there.
