Render Engine Node for Compositor

I go back and forth between Eevee and Cycles when working. I also use the Denoise node for Cycles, so when I switch back to Eevee, I have to go to the Compositor and rewire the outputs.

I'd love to have a node similar to the Render Engine dropdown on the Material Output in the Shader.

Something that detects the renderer, and allows me to set up one route for Eevee, another for Cycles, and lets me switch engines without having to edit the Compositor.

Planning out the if/else and other issues that arise probably requires a bit more analysis than I've put into it so far, but here's a quick mockup of what I'm thinking:

that's what scene Link copy is for {attachment blender_xmu0hkyLNHpng}

This node would be like some kind of control flow node, taking a path only if a condition is true. I like the idea. I have in mind this kind of nodes for things like choosing a path depending on the current frame and making transition effects between 2 paths when current frame is in a given range. But it may be already possible to do some of this things with drivers, haven't tried. Currently only the active viewer or composite gets rendered. This would need to be changed to the first one that can render something instead, giving preference to the active. Would like to implement it some day hopefully.

Scene link is the way to go. There are many discrepancies to handle in eevee, for example transparency, light intensities, some nodes not yet supported and the fundamental differences of pathtracers\rasterizers

We already have 'View layers' for this

Hey all – I tested it out, and Linked Copy seems to be what I need. Thanks for the help!

I noticed that there are still some things that oink out – like how Dynamic Sky world material disconnects when I switch scenes – but I'm happy I don't have to keep rewiring Compositor.

Thanks for the tip - I'll check out Linked Copy and see how that works for me. Again, my desire is to hit Render without having to leave the Layout window and flip switches.

If there's a Scene Copy workflow that allows me to set up two paths based on render engine – AND save it into my Startup file so I never have to repeat the setup – then I have what I need.

Extremely wanted, but probably that "Linked copy" can solve that, need to test.
