[2.8] Version Suggestion -> 3.0
Looking at the enormous paradigm shift that is 2.8:
- Re construction rendering foundation
- Removed Bl Internal
- Removed Game Engine
- Complete Interface Overhaul
- Complete Workflow Overhaul
- Internal object structure and UI Grouping and layering overhaul
- Plus much more.
Has the conversation been had by developers and planners over whether this is a sufficiently large update to shift the version to Blender 3?
If not, what do you think it would take?

This version is simply after 2.79, I think until 2.99. Blender will open the .blend file of previous generations with a minimum of manual or automatic conversion work. With Blender 3.xx this will not happen, the files will be incompatible with the current format in addition to a 'probable' new core and a new internal organization, I think it will be a new Blender rebuilt from scratch
On the blender conference 2016 or 2017 Ton talked about plans for 3.0 and as i remember there were deeper changes then now in 2.8 I suggest to watch it. Actully I will do it my self now :D
Personally i don't care. If it's 3.0 or Blender X or 2.795 :D
Rumors say that there are plans for 3.0 that will also bring a lot of changes.
I'd just like to point out that people said the same thing about 2.4->2.5 because of the massive UI and workflow changes that happened in the 2.5x series.
@amoose136: I was one of those who thought the 2.5 update was sufficient to go to 3. This is a more massive change still.
How much difference do you think it will take before we actually see a new version - or is there no change sufficient to warrant Blender being anything more than 2.x?
I think will get to 3.0 simply by continuing to creep up the version numbers. I don't think the the numbers remotely connected to how much difference there is between versions. 3.0 might be a tiny change from the last 2.x series and that's fine with me.
