Awesome splashscreens as micro tutorials and quick tipp.

Hello friends, reading the discussions about the learning curve in blender i thought maybe we can file off the edge just a little bit by using the blender splashscreen as another way of communication with the userbase.

The idea: We could use the splashsceens as one picture micro tutorials which are also sort of fun to look at.

Examples:

a G(rab) splashscreen showing one of the cuddly pinguin creatures from the open movie projects grabbed by a mechanical arm or a crane and put into a sort of incredible machine... maybe by the lama who knows it's intensions.

a R(otate) splashscreen with the lama on one of these small playground merry-go-rounds going sooo fast its tongue gets stetched out by the rotational forces. Showing a small series of shortcuts in the picture along the lines of "R + Z + 36000".

This could be further extended to many other aspects of blender as well showing its features, communicating helpful tipps and tricks in a fun way.

Some more examples:

a particle system & physics (gravity): a "don't press that button" splashscreen as a comic strip where the global gravity gets dissabled by the antagonis and the protagonist counters this by setting its local gravity affection to 0 as he is part of a particle system... something the antagonist might have missed and so he is in turn affected by its own doing falling

a weight paint: pinguin plays a joke on the lama splashscreen, where he applies weight paint on the back of the lama and suddenly berry bushes or something like that grow from these locations on the lamas back...where he cannot reach them poor lama .

What to gain:

  • Communication of ideas, principles, features or quick tipps to the userbase.
  • Community interaction
  • A chance for showcasing artists and their artwork which might further lead to interaction, contribution or engagement in the community

Could lead to:

  • Blender (spalshscreen) art challenges
  • Awesome and creative artworks or ideas which could be turned into things like open movie projects on to blender merchandize, which in turn might create some money to support development further?!

Personal expirience: Personally i had no big issues with the steep learning curve as the climb for me is and was huge fun. The expirience so far felt quite good -- actually very good.

I feel more and more enabled to convert what is in my mind to a .blend file and thats an awesome feeling. A feeling to which you people as a community contributed a lot: by developing blender, creating aweseome tutorials, sharing your creations and blend files and giving support on one of the many channels.

The keyboard shortcuts i picked up along the way making my first steps: following tutorials, seeing them used in videos, seeing them as hint in the UI...

As with most good things the beginning is hard. At first you have to think a lot about which button to press and soon you find yourself pressing the shortcuts without thinking about them.

For example to R(otate), S(cale) and G(rab) i got used quite natural... and the fun thing where i need to lough about myself is that i wondered for a very long time why G was used as shortcut. My mind just did not want to make the connection to (G)rab and still i very soon used it without thinking about it.

Thank you community: You are an awesome community, thank you all for your contributions - to blender and FOSS!

Have fun and see you around, Stephan :)
