Weird behaviour of Mesh/Separate/By Loose Parts
I have a two cubes in one mesh that don’t share any vertices. In object mode I cannot use the Mesh > Separate > By Loose Parts action. I can only use it in edit mode, whether I have something selected or not. So I thought it the command would behave differently when I have different parts of the mesh selected, but it does not, it just makes one more not-needed step to go to separate the mesh by loose parts.
My proposal: Make the Mesh > Separate > By Loose Parts command work in object and edit mode.

Since this command is an action done on the data inside an object and not on the object itself, it does make sense for it to be in edit mode, isn't it?
Does it really? I agree with the proposal author, that it would shorten the way to desired result
Codewise and may make sense but from a usability standpoint it has unnecessary steps It definitely would not hurt to work in Object mode but it would make the life easier for those who would use it
It doesn't hurt but I guess the dev will see this as breaking how Blender works and so won't do it.
Blender would be much user-friendlier when it temporarily switches over to edit-mode under the hood to perform an action and switches back to object mode when finished.
That's not the issue here >"<
From a programming POV there's nothing that prevent the
Seperatecommands to be used in object mode, it's more that the people who develop Blender have decided on guidelines about how things should be done and I fear this proposal being in contradiction with these guidelines will make it unacceptable by the core dev team.Though 1) I might be wrong on this and 2) there's always the possibility for an addon to do that (though if 1 is true, you will never see that addon shipped with Blender out of the box).
The mesh.separate operator already works in object mode it is just not exposed to a menu (you can execute it by searching for mesh.separate in the F3 search menu)
