Filebrowser - Jump to file by pressing its first letter key
Like Windows explorer, Blender's filebrowser should jump to a file/ folder if the letter key that corresponds to the first letter of the name is pressed. If there are multiple files/ folders, pressing the first letter key more than once, it should jump to the next file with the same first letter.

Please no, this would break Blender’s logic (by nullifying Blender’s shortcuts). Rather implement a fast search function with the press of a key, like, for example, spacebar.... Push spacebar, then start typing the name of your file and Blender would filter the files... This would be as fast to get your file, but without breaking Blender’s logic.
It would not break any blender logic. It is a plain file browser window and almost any file browser in any o.s. works like this. It is a speed up thing.
it will, keys are using for shortcuts, searching is using spacebar in everywhere blender for now
But this is not a standard blender window. It is a special case. It is a o.s. window, like in any other program, when you use the "open" command. It is a a tree of contents in your hard drives, etc so you need a fast way to find the file you are searching for. Right now it is very tedious and slow to search for the file by hand.
Please notice than regular Blender shortcuts also work in this window as well. For example, please open the file browser and push the “n” key. It will open the sidebar just like in any other Blender panel. That is what I mean with Blender’s logic, you will nullify Blender shortcuts, hence Blender’s logic will be broken.
I did not know that. But do you think that it is more important to use the n key to open the sidebar than to search for the files starting with n letter inside a file browser window? Really?
We are not talking about just one shortcut. There are several shortcuts for the File Browser, to see them all got o Blender Preferences -> Keymap -> File Browser.
Please try the shortcut for filtering files: Ctrl + F. Once you get used to it is really fast.
This is a must. Small things like this speed up the workflow.
Please first try the standard shortcut for filtering files by name: Ctrl + F, then start typing the file name.
Thanks for the tip. It is a workaround at least. But i would prefer to simply press one key not three.
yes, a must have feature.. remaping the shortcut keys to use modifiers (shift, ctrl, alt) and functions keys (f2,f3...)
No, please no. You will break Blender's logic. It is just easier to use the actual shortcut to filter the files: Ctrl + F Please try it, it is really fast and responsive.
