PLEASE BRING BACK "LIGHT GROUPS" "Selective Lighting" in 2.8
Light groups/Selective lighting was amazing in 2.79 you could select objects and lights and CTRL +G and group them up having the light affect only that object and no other one
in 2.8 that seems to be impossible , it just creates collections, and collections can't seem to have isolative lights ...
For who will suggest layers .. no , layers are Horrible for that , it consumes so much time to render each layer ,i feel layers are amazing for big productions but for general use its quite a lot of time wasted rendering each layer, the 2.79 method was the best for the purpose of isolating or grouping things , even tho it was clunky

You could do this in 2.79!? I missed out. Yeah, in 2.8 it would make sense that a light in a collection would only affect what is in the collection. Meaning a global light system would either be in a root collection or in the root, or assigend to all collecctions. It would make sense as.. collections are mostly render pass like systems.
Essentially a duplicate of this proposal I doubt we'll see this in Cycles anytime soon, as it seems the Cycles developers prefer to do things right the first time- which means lots of work has to go into the design before they start writing the code. Take a look at this patch on DevTalk . It's important to know all of the use-cases and balance them against each other, while leaving space for future developments. One of the arguments against Light Linking is that it is often used to hack around issues with unreliable shaders. This is why it was in BI-- the lighting in Big Buck Bunny had to be handled separately for the fur (same with the hair in Sintel). I agree though, that EEVEE needs light linking because EEVEE "fakes" a lot of its effects. If we're already faking a few post-proces effects, why not the lighting? EEVEE is never gonna do Global Illumination.
Finally, I want to say that this is hardly a feature proposal at all. Have you researched the topic? How would the UI look? What advantages does it have over the current workarounds? Create a detailed description of your idea and maybe a mockup or two before posting. Especially if your idea has duplicates.
I would be interested to know precisely how you do that in 2.79, because I can't manage to do it.
* @-L0Lock- * It was a Blender Internal feature. This kind of thing is really required for ray-tracers, since they can't do Global Illumination well. You have to fake lighting tricks.
* @Josephbburg * AFAIK there's already a similar thing for light probes in EEVEE:
Maybe that's on the line for lights too.
