Mesh Deformer for Grease Pencil Layers

with a Mesh Deformer for Grease Pencil it would be easier to rig 2D characters. right now i only know a work around . bind a 2D layers to a lattices and the put mesh deformer on top of the lattice. with a mesh deformer for 2D layer this would be a lot easier . you could use one mesh to bind different 2D layers at once and use normal weight panting

I'd also really love to see surface deform for GP, so that I can draw lines and keep them on a 3D object's surface (like Freestyle lines, but better). I'm eventually going to write a Python script that matches armature weights for GP and mesh objects, once I care enough to tackle the problem.

Did you make progress on that?

they added the shrinkwrap to GP in 3.1, so I have high hopes that a mesh deform will also be coming eventually, hopefully soon, would make working in GP so much better

The shrink wrap only makes the GP adhere to the boundary of the mesh. That worked the same way in 2.9
I don't see why they can't have the GP react to a MeshDeformer the same way the GP reacts to a Lattice. It is not a big stretch to ask. If you search for "mesh deformation" in this site, you get 4 results spanning 2 yrs asking for this "necessary" feature to speed rigging the GP.
GP to mesh deform - mesh to armature - DONE. No more crazy vertex groups and hours of work. Should someone resubmit this once again?! thank you
