Eevee Next - Sun Shadow Artifacts

Eevee Next shadows cast from a sunlight show significant artifacts in the edges, while Eevee did not.

This is a known issue, and the suggestion is to correct this problem. Example image shows the problem, and also a link to the original bug report from June 2024.

There is no technical workaround for this, other than "do not use sun shadows", or "use a fisheyed camera lens"; it is blocking adoption of any version of Blender 4.2+.

Why post it here if it's a confirmed bug just waiting to be fixed?

There's no current task to fix the bug (that I can find), so a request here seems to be the only appropriate channel to ask that it be addressed.

There's no current task to fix the bug

The bug report being open is the task to fix it.

I'm personally not against this kind of post, though. It does show support from the community to address specific issues. Recently, the priority has been performance which was another request from the community, and it has been addressed. This and the past week Clément is going through old bug reports, closing some and sorting others. It's one person against 600 bug reports (now 500ish) though, so give it time.

We're now nearly 2 years after this regression was reported, and it's still not addressed.

Can this get some priority and be fixed, before the team continues creating newer projects?
