Align View to Selection
It would be useful if there was a command to align the 3D view along the normal of the current vertex selection.
It would compliment the Transformation orientation "View" mode and when adding meshes to the scene (i.e. Circle) which have an "align to view" option.
I realise that there is an View->Align View->Align View to Active set of commands. At first I thought this would work for me but after experimenting the view would flip and rotate in unexpected ways.
A practical example to have a pipe come out of a wall with an arbitrary rotation.
- In Edit mode select a face in an object
- Shift S (sigh) Cursor to Selected
- Align View to Selected
- Shift A Add Circle
- Select Align View in add options (the circle will now line up perfectly with the face)
- Extrude the circle along it's face normal to make the pipe
Admittedly for the OCD who abhor "close enough".

Isn't this similar to Shift+1, Shift+3, Shift+7, etc. (in the numpad)?
Shift+7 is very close, though it changes to Orthographic view. I imagined the perspective view would rotate to make the selected face "flat" while keeping UP is up. Kind of like pressing "." to center the view on the selection. But the Shift+7 is a good one to know!
If Shift+7 is very close then maybe it's better to extend that functionality by adding operator settings to center the view and keep perspective/ortho view.
Maybe SHIFT+. would center the selection AND rotate the perspective view so that the selection normal = view? :)
