Connect object like in c4d

It would be nice to have connect-object like feature in bender. A connect-object connects a collection of objects into a single mesh without actually merging in destructive way. It is kinda like collection instance, it automatically updates when objects inside collection is changed or transformed. More details about cinema 4d's connect object feature : help.maxon.net/us/

Use cases

  • Can emit particles from collection
  • Ability to use a collection of objects as target for shrinkwrap or boolean modifier.

I think the upcoming modifiers on collections system might get some results you would want.

* @daniellapalme * thats cool

ammusionist

Would it be a smaller change to just make the Shrinkwrap modifier able to target collections?

* @ammusionist * But having this feature is a benefit

Hmmm... The upcoming Weld modifier developer.blender.org/T70240 could be a nice starting point for this..... 🤔

Another Softimage feature that I really miss. Merging meshes and keeping them still dynamic yet still the same mesh. It's super useful in Alembic exports and other use cases.

It looks like this creates a Convex Mesh or Convex Hull around the selected objects. Convex meshes are also used as collision objects in game engines and physics engines.

Being able to create a convex mesh object from a specified object or a group of objects would be interesting, and would have several use cases. I'm not sure what's the best way to do it, though.

* @janne * There's an operator for creating convex meshes (in edit mode), but I think it only works on one mesh at a time. And it's destructive. But you can make a convex hull pretty easily if you duplicate and join the objects first.

This is already possible with Boolean Union- the meshes will join in the ordinary way if they don't intersect. But if you need them to occupy the same location as each other, this won't work.

* @Josephbburg * That is very ineffecient way,we have to add many boolean modifiers for that.

* @bluefoxcreation * Sure, but it's a workaround until there's a better way.
