Automatically Create a Vertex group when Assigning the Hook Modifier
Blender should give users the option to automatically create a new vertex group when assigning vertices to a hook modifier.
The existing behaviour (Ctrl+H > Hook to New Object) creates a link between the selected verts and an empty and creates a new hook modifier in the object's modifier stack. However it doesn't automatically create a new vertex group. Meaning the user needs to manually create a vertex group (with matching verts) to effect the same vertices with other modifiers, or constraints etc.
If this was automated, managing which vertices are linked to which hook would then become much more intuitive (and flexible) via use of the Vertex Group Panel in the Object Data tab.
Users would have the ability to both assign verts to a hook (currently available in the hook menu and in the modifier settings) AND remove verts from a hook (not currently available in either).
As well as select (currently available in the hook menu and in the modifier settings) AND deselect verts from a hook (not available in either).
Confusingly
Vertex > Hooks > Remove Hook
- also actually deletes the hook modifier itself rather than removing the selected verts from a specific hook.
