Theming picker to easily find the element you want to change

Theming in Blender is hard. Sure it gotten better recently but it's still a bit of a mess imo since it can be really hard to find that specific element that you might want to change. Right now I'm trying to change the background of the properties tabs but I just don't know where to look.

One thing that could help quite a lot with this is a "picker" in the theme-editor that you can press and then click anywhere on a UI element and you get automagically transported to where ever in the theme editor where you change the colour of that specific element.

There is a big work being done to simplify the themes settings:

#140360 - UI: Combine common theme settings - blender - Blender Projects

Once this is done, not only there will be fewer options to fiddle with to make the slightest change, but it will also make it easier to expand on the theming tools.

In the meantime, there are addons like the Quick Theme Editor , Theme Maker , and especially pragma37's THEME EDITOR which features different tools to group properties by color, use a picker, ....

This would be nice. I'm just afraid it might be hard to implement. But I'm not a def.

Background color of the properties can be changed under Properties>Theme Space> Window Background

And over the background there are panels, which can be edited in User Interface > Panel

I have no idea how it would be implemented code wise, but I'm hoping that maybe Pablo or someone else knows how that UI works and can do it :)

I'm looking for the background behind the vertical properties tab, so none of those did help me, thank you anyways!

Btw I had a bit of a hard time finding that User Interface > Panel, most stuff in that list is in alphabetical order, except some stuff in the bottom of that list that's not for some reason?

Then

Regions > Toolbar/Sidbar > Navigation/Tabs Background

could be what you are looking for.

Yeah I tried that one too, but it changes the background to the left in the Preference. This all just confirms the need for a picker ;)

Yeah, the whole theme thing is quite confusing and hard to use. There is so much room for improvements. Like, for example, Global Color Swatches would make things so much easier. You could assign one color to multiple theme “blocks” and then change that color from one place, instead of changing dozens of colors.

Ok, I went off-topic, sorry :)

And I don't know what properties you mean...

Have you tried "Tabs Background"? :D

Yeah apparently it was there ;) But as with most stuff in the theming editor it's not always to logical where one would find it. A picker of sort would help a LOT when theming since sometimes it's more or less impossible to find the right element.
