Proposal: Morphing Geometry Modifier

What Morphing modifier can be use:

  • Morph human into Werewolf
  • Morph base human mesh into different ages and genders.
  • Morph Vtuber character (different body proportions)
  • Monkey into Cicada

The Issue:

  • My current node can Morph from High Poly Geometry to Low Poly Target (work best). This node similiar with Cast Modifier or Shrinkwrap Modifier.
  • But for High Poly Target Object, the result look more like Shrinkwrap modifier than a Morphing modifier:

My proposal:

  • Blender add a native Morphing modifier asset (geonode based).

Transfer Attribute node is not needed, you can still replicate the results of the tutorial: files.catbox.moe/dnq4xe.png

But there are far better algorithms than just linear interpolation to nearest vertex, that better understand topology. So I think a node group asset for "morph between two shapes" would still be really useful to have.

Thank you, RedMser!

Turn out my node are correct (just like the node you showed).

But I did used a high poly object as Target (Suzane) therefore make the result look like a shrinkwrap modifier (smooth Geometry also contribute into it).

When I use the node on Suzane, morph into target Cube or Sphere, it work correctly.

You did mention a better algorithms that understand topology rather than just linear interpolation to nearest vertex, I hope that algorithms exists and Blender implement it, really useful feature indeed!
