Export selected viewer as new mesh

To aid in debugging geo node networks it can be very useful to bake the result down to actual geometry and then poke around at the points, edges, etc.

But often I want to do this in an intermediate stage (i.e. what I am currently viewing using a viewer node instead of the final output of the entire node network).

To do this, I need to do the following:

  1. Duplicate the geometry with its geometry node network attached.
  2. Wire the output node to wherever the current viewer node is hooked up to.
  3. Potentially rewire upstream networks in the case that this is a nested node.
  4. Bake the whole thing down to an actual mesh.
  5. Carefully undo everything I just did to return the network to its prior configuration, and hope I didn't miss a step.

Ideally we would be able to just hit a button on the viewer node that would take the output of that node (whatever that may look like) and just create a new mesh in the outliner with that baked data.

This mesh could be named ViewerExport.001 and so on.

I think geometry node should have a realize geometry or bake node that actually have an option/operator to either export glb/fbx/obj or append the "baked" result back into a new object without modifiers/geonode.
