Blender Launcher
With the introduction of the Blender in the pipeline Studio, you need a Blender Launcher, for version control and for timely updates. Also for extension developers

As a gamer, my gut reaction to hearing about a new launcher is "oh no, not another one," but in this case I think it might actually be handy, especially for managing multiple installations, or even checking which version a .blend file was created in, and opening that specific version of Blender.
I'd like this too.
For now I use Blender Version Manager , but it supports only daily builds for now. Maybe the author would be interested in this proposal?
* @-L0Lock- * Thank you, it will help me a lot. But still I would like to have a single launcher. I think the blender is ready for this since the release of 2.80
Looks great 😁
I'd love to see this honestly.
Hate launchers if they are starting first. An individual app that can be start alongside with Blender would be important for someone. But I like to start Blender at once and fast
* @rainbromail * I agree, but the best will be to have 2 possibilities : start launcher or start Blender directly. Because a launcher will be very useful for managing projects, versions and many others things. Maybe, a launcher can contain the possibility to add flags to the projects, for a better managment.
* @Kdaf * Blender 2.82a KDE Manjaro Linux "hot start" from usb flash drive 3 in a less than 1.2 seconds! No need nothing else in between of my click and Blender window! Less ENV variables in system = faster hot start and less offline deamons
* @rainbro * Yes, so the launcher can be an external optional program like the benchmark is, no ? So anyone choose using or not the launcher.
* @Kdaf * yes another simple app in Blender folder with 5000+ more files. But this app should register your install\Env variables to know about all your Blenders in a system. Or maybe its a simple "copy\paste path" in prefs. I'm simply do not want offline memory footprints like Adobe when you start Photoshop for example and this is a start for a couple more offline not important for an artist apps in background too
* @Kdaf * Agree, most launcher offer the ability to launch software outside of the launcher itself from the desktop
* @rainbro * I also assume that the launcher should be spread separately, as substance. This way, you can only download the launcher and install and monitor versions and news through it, or go to the site yourself to download the necessary build. Moreover, the launch of the blender should not be synchronized with the launch of the launcher, in order to save a quick start. This is my opinion
Where can i download this?
* @gulicmanojlo * So far this is just a suggestion)
In studios, the artist sitting at the workstation usually doesn't have any control over installing or de-installing software, or gets to actively -choose whether he/she wants to use a daily build or the latest production build. In most cases they can't access a ot of things that are not important for their work. If you want something installed, go ask IT, they'll ask your supe if you need it and then install if okay-ed. Also, software is usually rolled out remotely using specialized tools for doing so. So support for the usual remote (batch) install systems in use would make more sense than a launcher, IMO.
* @shadingandlighting * In my Studio, different teams use different versions of the blender. When I'm asked to help someone from another team, they tell me which version of the blender they use. Such a system exists both inside the Studio and for people on a remote basis. Personally, it is not always convenient for me to switch between them and it is not convenient for me to keep track of updates. It is also inconvenient to follow the development news. I just have to visit several sites and manually track everything.
Duplicate of this proposal .
* @Jason van Gumster * In that post, it all came down to Blender Version Manager. It's a little different
Ui is just amazing ! Are you developing this ? I planned to do this, so if you need help...
* @Kdaf * No, this is just a sketch of the launcher's design, what it might look like Is just a suggestion. I hope the developers will notice us. In General, it is very easy to make such a launcher, so it will not be difficult for blender devs. Unfortunately I don't have time(
