Integrate Fspy (Or equivalent) to Blender

FSpy is an app that lets you draw perspective lines on photos, and calculate the camera position and focal length out of it. It's open source, as far as I know. Using it, placing 3d objects can match the photo perfectly...

I think blender should have such functionality built in. Really helps with compositing, or modelling out of photos...

Hey good news :) As an addon... hmm... I think this should be core stuff... There are a lot of features in blender that are addons, that don't feel like they should be addons and visa versa... But I din't yet quite nail the logic on what should be shouldn't be an addon to justify "feelings"...

Are you concerned about performance ? I think the logic for perspective matching is reasonably simple so I wouldn't worry about that

Yes, I understand that "blender" try to blend as many core features as possible, but I still think that the camera calibration feature wouldn't be "core" until the blender foundation decide it is a key feature to make an open movie.

They added the camera tracking solution when they wanted to make Tears of Steel. This could have been one of the features added during this short movie, but the team was more reduced back then, and didn't think spend times doing this tool.

Code made in core blender, or in embed blender addons need to be updated on every code change that may break it, having too much thing to maintain isn't doable (even if you have a lot of donation to hire more devs)

As you can see, they even had to remove some features like the game engine, and focus on really important / requested features (like sculpt mode, or cycle performances) While they were doing that, and making the software as much bugless as they could, they didn't had time to improve the VSE or Compositor.

fspy used to be an addon. It was easier to make improvements to it as a stand-alone app. Also made it possible for non-blender users to use it.

While ago i worked in architecture viz in 3ds so perspective match and also camera match (calculating camera position, lense, fov by putting points on image and 3d model same time) was absolutely must have features to work with existing buildings redesigns. Same story with historical reproduction of military vehicles and ships(camera match tool was the best solution for it). Pity blender lacks these features...
