Automatic recognition of Import file formats
Hi,
I've always found it cumbersome having to determine beforehand which file format I want to import into Blender. I'd love to see one unified Import option in Blender, followed by a file import window that automatically recognizes compatible file formats.
Ideally, the Import function should offer the option to activate available Blender add-ons that allow importing other formats as well, or at least indicate which other file formats could be imported if you'd activate certain add-ons in the Blender Preferences.
It would be even better if this option would make it possible to import multiple files at once.
Thanks.

duplicate or not, i get so damn tired of hunting down the correct "import" item in the menu when I should just be able to drag and drop a file in and have the correct importer be used.
I agree 100%. I'd love it if blender had one import option and then after you choose a file it then queries the user about the import settings for that specific file (and which import addon to use for that file format).
* @o7216059 * Not to mention with this you could import multiple files with different types in one operation instead of each one at a time.
* @o7216059 * Definitely. Thanks, I've added that to my post.
This would be a nice change. I think the reason for the current way is that we're actually running some plugin whose author just happens to have put the controls in the "import" menu.
