"Random" value in "Object Data" and "Particle Data" shader nodes

The "Random" input in the "Object Data" and "Prarticle Data" shader nodes are effectively equivalent and redundant, given that every particle is an instance of an object. Why not have a more useful "Random by emitter" output in the particle data shader instead?

The random value would be equal for all particles spawned by the same emitter object.

For example, this would be useful for multiple instances of trees with particle leaves. Tree color could vary between (healthy) green and (dying) yellow trees with leaves using the same base color, per tree, but varying slightly per leaf for a more realistic result. I am sure there are many other uses for this.
