💬 [Feedback Wanted] Drag & Drop Hints on Windows
Hola Community!
Windows users out there: could you provide feedback to see if this feature works as expected?
On Windows, Drag & Drop data can be obtained when the mouse enters in a window. This data can be used to provide feedback to the user, for example, if the data contains a file path, it can be displayed if an operation can be performed on the file on drop. This also gives feedback for URL drag and drop.
Thanks!
PS: What do you think of using RCS to ask for feedback btw?

When Collection Instance to Collection, subCollections is lost, kindly please solve this problem. Thanks!

That's such a nice QoL addition!
Functionality-wide:
Would this be easily accessible in Python for addon devs? To give a user case, I have an addon where the user needs to import .zip files with a specific name format from a 3rd party tool, would I be able to trigger a specific hint when that name pattern is detected from the drag'n'droped file?
GUI-wide:
I'd worry about the text portion without background. I made a test over a frame from Charge:
It does give a nice contrast from the first line, but it also make it hard to read depending on the clutter or shades of what's behind.
Furthermore, maybe a framed box containing all the hints would look nicer and tidier, similar to the splash screen and popups and whatnot (and would fix the above for good):
Perhaps it would also be nice to have a max width with text-wrapping to avoid horizontal overflow when the file path is very long. Which can easily happen ;)
As zuorion mentioned, the lack of tools for efficiently giving proper feedback if need be, makes RCS a bit limited as a feedback platform.
However, it's definitely a good place to reach the community that might not be present elsewhere. So if RCS is updated in the future (i'd think about allowing to upload images/videos from RCS instead of relying on the user having to go on a third party website first, support video in comments, support insertion from common video platforms), it would be definitely a better tool!
Works fine. As far as i tested it.
It works only for built-in formats? Support for community importers is planned? What About multiple importers for same format (eg. FBX, soon-new ufbx experimental, and many
I don't think thats good platform for feedback, its better to do on discourse based forum like devtalk or blenderartists, many people woudn't be able to post images or videos as feedback here.
