Geometry nodes to Mesh
Guys am I missing something or it isn't possible yet to convert a Geometry nodes object/animation to a Mesh? If you can not convert it to mesh, or export as fbx, it definitely needs to find a solution. Made a cool animation with Geometry nodes and wanted to export for Unreal engine, but it disappears once I want to convert into a Mesh, apply modifiers or export as fbx.
You guys made an excellent job on Geometry nodes, thank you very much! Keep improving it:)
Peace!

Applying the Geometry Nodes modifier should convert it to mesh, this is a must have.
* @vangel * exactly
I think maybe Edit poly(mesh) node is all you would need to convert it to mesh? plus the added bonus of further editing with this node/modifier
I don't understand how it's possible to release it without thinking of this... To me, it's the tipical blender "new feature" things : release a cool unfinished tool without thinking of how people will use it. No offense blender dev team, just a fact :)
* @kaiz3rwork * They should definitely check out how the animation nodes addon works.
* @imremeszaros * They main guy behind Geometry Nodes is the Same GUy who Made Animation Nodes, JaquesLucke
I support the idea. In my opinion, this is a necessary feature.
* @kaiz3rwork * As far as I know Geometry Nodes will only be available in Blender 2.93, which is currently in Alpha. Blender developers still have time for such a Node to appear. If a lot of people care about this feature, it will probably come sooner.
I think the process to quickly release and test certain features is a very good one. It allows the community to report needs like this one.
Eventually there will be this feature, for sure 🙂
It should not only convert it to a mesh but maintain the instances as instances where possible, so if you scatter tons of leaves or pebbles or grass they are still instances once converted. I would need this feature so much for a project I am working on right now....I hope it comes soon
To export an animation, you can export it as an alembic file. To convert it to a static mesh with no animations, you can press CTRL+A and click "make instances real"
I forgot, the "decimation modifier" is fine too :). It will allow conversion to mesh.
Hi, the only way I have experimented and that seems to work, is to apply the "remesh modifier" to the node object. Of course it will make everything worse by also changing the mesh topology ... but for now it seems to be the only viable solution.
