Add "Launch in New Window" to the File > New Sub-Menu

A very common workflow is needing to open a fresh, empty Blender project while keeping the current one open—for example, to model a new asset, test a feature, or copy-paste between files.

Currently, this is impossible to do from within the Blender interface:

File > New replaces the current project, which is often not the desired action.

The Proposed Solution

Modify the File > New menu item to host a sub-menu that includes the current templates and a new option to launch a separate instance.

On Windows you can do that by Middle 🖱️ clicking any software's icon in the taskbar or Right 🖱️ it ⟩ and run it again. IDK exactly for other operating systems, I know on most Linux distros you at least have the RMB method.

In Linux I simply click on the Blender shortcut in the dock and it opens a new instance.

On Mac I don't remember... but I remember calling Blender from terminal to open multiple instances. Should have a "easy way" as well.

until one-click solution like this is implemented, i use:

  1. Window > New Main Window - opens a copy of the current blend file in a new window
  2. File > New ... - replace with a new file
