VSE Style panel based in alpha channel
Make the Style panel options for the text strip based on the alpha channel of images and videos, for simple editing and effects.
This is common in image and video editors. It can be very useful for logo layers or layer montages with alpha channels or masks.
They could also be modifiers rather than a Strip options panel, perhaps in the mask modifier options or with dedicated modifiers.

This is possible already in 5.0 using the Compositor modifier, no need to code anything new.
It could be assets that ship with Blender. Maybe the community has solutions already that could be contributed back to Blender?
