Multipart EXRs

We would like to see Multipart EXRs from blender

Multipart EXR means that in a software like nuke we dont have to read the whole exr file but rather just the layers and channels thst we need. This massively speeds up workflows, espeically if the list of AOVs and layers gets extensive.

thank you

Will someone pleeeeeease think of the Compositors! Seriously though, this will make a huge difference to the performance in post and is essential to speedy/organsied workflows. (Also responders should be aware of the distinction between Multipart, Multipass and Multilayered EXR's) Thnx

I think you can do it using the compositor's file output node, but I guess a checkbox in the File Format panel would be nice too.

yea i dont like to use the compositor, would be so nice to just be able to have multiparts

UmeOrenji

If you use the compositor's output node you'll lose the metadata and the cryptomatte will don't work

did anybody got a temp solution for that? maybe a exr converter? tried to write one with chatgpt but failed. for us it is actually extremly time consuming with that exr file out of blender inside nuke. thx!

My studio is working on a multilayer to multipart conversion tool as we speak. Happy to share access with you if you have some knowledge of Python and Git.

hi . that would be great. i will have a try on it! you can write me directly to jens@3deutig.com

here is the same, we currently switching from a 3dsmax/vray pipepline with multi-part exr workflow and now the blender exr files we getting out are extremly slow in nuke, it is not just a slighty ones it makes a huge difference, espeacially when it come to print resolutions... so please add multi-part and also the auto crop option to the file out node !

Current state is, 4.1 can read multipart in compositor (4.0 can't) but can't write it. And multipart makes a huuuge difference in my compsiting tests.

This is a big issue for us as well.
